THE MAKING OF SOLSPEL

ETHICAL AND HANDMADE IN BALI

It’s about time I share a glimpse of what has, until now, been kept quite private—the process behind our handmade Solspel jewelry.

So many of you, my dear clients, have been curious to see the faces and hands behind the scenes. Your curiosity has inspired me to open the doors and share, both in words and visuals, everything that goes into the making of Solspel.

Enjoy the journey!

Our Essence: Jewelry with Purpose

If you’ve ever heard the story of how Solspel began, you may know that I started making jewelry when I was just seven years old. For over a decade, that creative spark lay dormant—until COVID changed everything. While “stuck” in Bali, I rediscovered my long-lost passion for crafting unique, handmade jewelry with silver and semi-precious gemstones.

For about half a year, jewelry-making became my meditation—I couldn’t keep my hands off it. But as time passed, my vision evolved. I began dreaming of creating fine jewelry—pieces that required exceptional artistry and skill. That’s when I started collaborating with a small, family-owned silversmithing business in Bali, one with generations of expertise in the craft.

From the moment we connected, I knew this was the right partnership. Their values mirrored mine: every piece had to be entirely handmade, each stone carefully hand-selected. Beyond their craftsmanship, their way of life resonated deeply with me. As Balinese artisans, their days are infused with devotion—from creating offerings and visiting their family temple to practicing sacred ceremonies.

From a sketch to a soulful creation

Every Solspel piece begins as a spark of inspiration—sometimes drawn from nature’s raw beauty, ancient symbolism, or the organic forms found in the elements. Before it takes physical shape, each design is normally sketched or sculptured by hand, a process where imagination and intention intertwine.

From there, the vision moves into a more tactile phase—wax carving. This delicate step requires patience and precision, as the form of the jewelry is sculpted by hand, ensuring every detail aligns with the original essence of the piece. Wax models bring the design to life, allowing for refinement before they are cast in sterling silver or gold.

Once cast, the piece undergoes a series of careful hand-finishing techniques, from meticulous filing and polishing to stone setting—each step guided by the skilled hands of our Balinese artisans. Every gemstone is handpicked, chosen for its natural beauty and energetic resonance.

This process is slow, intentional, and deeply connected to the soul of craftsmanship.

There are no shortcuts—just passion, dedication, and the belief that handmade jewelry carries a spirit that mass production never can.

Meet Our Balinese Artisans

Behind every Solspel piece lies the dedication, skill, and artistry of our Balinese artisans—masters of their craft who have inherited generations of silversmithing traditions.

I collaborate with a small, family-run workshop in Bali, where jewelry-making is more than just a profession; it is a sacred art form, deeply intertwined with cultural heritage and devotion.

Using methods passed down through their ancestors, they meticulously shape, carve, and refine each piece by hand, ensuring that no two creations are ever identical.

Their craftsmanship breathes life into every ring, necklace, and pendant, making each one a true work of wearable art.

Solspel Jewelry making
“Jewelry carries more than beauty—it holds intention, artistry, and the hands that shaped it. At Solspel, every piece is crafted with soul, honoring tradition, sustainability, and the magic of true craftsmanship.”

Ethical Sourcing & Sustainable Practices

At Solspel, we believe that beauty should never come at the cost of integrity. That’s why we are committed to ethical sourcing, fair wages, and sustainable practices at every stage of production.

We work closely with our small, family-run workshop in Bali to ensure that every artisan is fairly compensated for their skill and dedication. Their work is not just a trade but a legacy—one we deeply respect and nurture.

Our materials are sourced with mindfulness and care. We use high-quality 925 sterling silver and offer 14k, 17k, and 22k gold on demand, ensuring that our metals are responsibly obtained. Each gemstone is hand-selected for its natural beauty and energetic properties, with a focus on working with raw, unpolished crystals to preserve their organic essence.

By choosing ethically sourced materials, we not only honor the earth but also ensure that each piece carries a vibration of integrity, authenticity, and conscious creation.

We are continuously striving to improve our sustainability efforts—reducing waste, using recyclable packaging, and making choices that align with a future where ethical jewelry is the norm, not the exception.

Giving back

Giving Back: Our Commitment to Community

Solspel is more than just a jewelry brand—it’s a movement of giving back and uplifting others. A portion of every purchase is donated to a local orphanage in Timor, Indonesia, supporting children in need by contributing to their education, well-being, and future opportunities.

This commitment stems from a deep connection to the island and its people. Bali has given us so much—its artistry, its traditions, its inspiration—and we believe in reciprocating that generosity. Supporting the local community is an essential part of Solspel’s essence, ensuring that the beauty we create extends beyond jewelry and into the lives of those who need it most.

When you wear a Solspel piece, you’re not just wearing something handcrafted with love—you’re also helping to create a ripple effect of kindness, support, and opportunity.

Why Handmade Matters

In a world driven by mass production and fast fashion, handmade jewelry stands as a testament to intention, artistry, and human touch.

At Solspel, every piece is crafted by hand, ensuring that no two are ever exactly alike. There are no shortcuts—just patience, skill, and deep reverence for the process.

Handmade jewelry carries a soul that machine-made pieces simply cannot replicate. Each ring, pendant, or necklace holds the subtle imprint of the artisan’s hands—their energy, their devotion, and their expertise. It’s a slow process, one that demands precision and care, but this is what makes every Solspel piece truly special and one-of-a-kind.

Choosing handmade means choosing authenticity. It means supporting traditional craftsmanship, keeping cultural heritage alive, and valuing the artistry that goes into every detail. It means investing in something that tells a story—one of passion, dedication, and ethical creation.

At Solspel, we believe jewelry should feel as unique as the person wearing it, and that’s why handmade will always matter.
